Shoelaces
Hazardous.
Before we jump into story-time, I just want to say ‘Thank you’ to those supporting my creative process and the generation of new work.
Now, for this week’s super short tale:
He’d meant to tie them up - at the bus stop, on the tube platform. Embarrassment over the bend down prevented him. The potential flash of withered waistband and threadbare boxer-short cloth. Now, he lay bundled at the foot of an escalator, his shoelace flossing its metal teeth.
You guessed correctly, it was prompted by the word ‘Shoelaces’ :)
<There’s a video of ‘Shoelaces’ being read here.>
I’ve mentioned the importance of reading work out loud before and this is something that’s even more apparent when it comes to comedy.
If a piece of writing makes me physically chuckle when I’m sat reading it to the fridge, I take it as a sign that someone else could find it amusing.
Could.
And not everyone.
But someone.
Comedy is subjective.
I studied both sketch and stand-up, quickly learning that people can have different tastes.
VERY different tastes.
It was an excellent reminder of not taking responses to my creations too personally.
Easier said than done.
But reassuring to know that, as long as I enjoy the work, there will always be at least one person in the room laughing.
